Video: Pokémon Go reveals Gameplay at SXSW

At the music, arts, and video*festival, SXSW (pronounced South by South West) a recent mobile panel revealed a few details on Pokémon Go, an upcoming release, and part of Nintendo’s growing Mobile Game platform. Keep in mind that this wasn’t a Pokémon Go-specific panel, and so details are small.
Pokémon Go is a release that has many players hyped up almost to the same level as the new main series games, Pokémon Sun and Moon. It promises an augmented reality where you can see and catch Pokémon in the real world. Everything has been quite hush-hush on the game so far, but leaked video of the panel shows the player catching an Ivysaur, and also a building with a symbol that seems to be what you would see on top of a Gym in the main series games.

When I first heard of Pokemon GO, my big fear was that the Pokemon wouldn't feel like they're incorporated enough into the environment that the phone's camera was looking at and would just feel like they were floating on the screen.

Unfortunately, it looks like that fear is coming true. The original promotional video made it seem like the Pokemon would look and feel like they're a part of the real environment you see before you. However, this gameplay video kind of just makes it seem like the Pokemon are green-screened against whatever the phone's camera is looking at.

I'll still stay tuned for more, but at the moment, I'm getting a little worried this isn't going to be as good as I thought it would be.

The thing is, Neo, there's only so much that can be done with augmented reality at this point. It's all still very new. Combined with the cartoon style of pokemon, there's never going to be a smooth transition. I'm gonna be happy with whatever we get, because the idea is darn awsome. xD

Yeah, that's true, it's just... eh, that promotional video was misleading. I'm still giving it a chance though, it's still too early to even think about dropping it just because of this.

I suppose we'll see what else they have to offer! In the future they could work towards improving their current formula or something.

True, maybe I was jumping the gun in expecting the technology to be that good already. I mean, I would LOVE to see it get to that kind of level some day, but hey, considering how far video games have come in just 20 years, it's possible!

Haha, well I'm sure it will get to that point in the future. It would be awesome if it was better right now, but it's fairly unexplored technology. Not to mention really difficult to master. XD Presumably.

I'm in the same boat as Neo but I knew already it wasn't really possible so I'm not too disappointed. xD Just darn, that promo video made it seem way too good. xD

I kinda knew they wouldn't get that far with the AR designs. I mean when you think about it, how INSANELY difficult would it be to have a Pokemon detect what's around it AND interact with it? I don't even think we can expect it from the anytime soon. xD

But how it looks now is okay, and I will still totally buy it. I'm so psyched to catch Pokemon in my backyard lol. Also I've noticed that mostly all of the promo videos for Pokemon products are misleading. I mean half the trailers for previous games looked like anime shows. I REALLY wish we would just get an anime like that. Replace Ash already! 3<

Yeah, I was never under the impression that the promo was going to be anything like the in-game experience. XD I mean, look at promos for any game--the render quality is way higher, and sometimes they film live action stuff. xD If the promo isn't actual gameplay footage, then it's not going to look like that.
