I love the way movies depict hacking. The make it look all cool and groovy when it's nothing like that at all. XD

It makes it look like its so simple and clean......I mean simple and epic. I mean I'm sure coders could did ways through easy servers and ways to DDoS streams and such, but hacking in general is more complex than I'd care to learn. However, I think learning to counter a hack would be better these days.

I tried learning programming. A lot depends on how good of a teacher you can get. In one class, learning Java was blah. But learning VB.net in another was actually quite fun. Unfortunately, I pretty much forgot everything I learned by now, but it was an interesting experience.

This is definitely very, very true, and it will for a fact make or break your grade.

Ratemyprofessors.com totally saved my butt in college, and I only wish I discovered it sooner.

Ah, I only wish you asked me sooner!

I visited the site again and it looks like they made a TON of improvements from the days I used to use it. It's awesome, it definitely helps when you're registering for classes. My last two years of college were much better than my first two years, and I owe a lot to this site.

It's funny...I knew about it, yet never used it....until after one of my worst recent experiences where I had a professor (anatomy) that pretty much refused any extra help outside of what he has. Never handed out PPs he made and showed off in class and refused to send it to us in email. He pretty much wanted us to memorize the book itself. Couldn't even record or take pictures of the stuff he showed us.

Come to find out after I dropped it he's the hardest professor on campus and was fired from his job and the medical college in the community for his work methods and how and how he treated the students. I think there was more to it, but it's been a year since and I hate looking back on that stressful quarter. For a class like that you really need one that works well with you and is willing to help and give you any extra notes (like the power points) to help.

Next try after using ratemyproffesor it helped a tremendous amount...wasn't "the best" but it was better and one of my better experiences in that type of course which I tend to struggle with.

Yeah, I've had times where I tried to use it and the professor I found wasn't in the database because they were new. And in grad school, not too many classes were offered where I had the opportunity to be choosy, but it helped a bit anyway to give me a heads up of what to expect from the guys I was going to have to end up taking anyway.

Also, professors that don't hand out their teaching materials... come on. The whole point is to learn the material, the concepts, and be able to apply them, hence why they're putting them up there in the first place. I don't get why some professors don't hand out powerpoints like they're some top secret documents. It saves students from having to write notes and copy slides at 200mph and allows them to reflect back on the class material so they do better on exams.
