I've heard that animals enter a state of isolation and exhibit strange behavior when an animal that he/she is close to passes away or is taken away. :(

Well yes, absolutely! Animals have emotions and thoughts just like we do (we are animals xD). Obviously some species would do it more than others. Like tasmanian devils are apparently really freaking rude and don't actually feel affection or love. xD
