I think a PMD anime would be awesome if done right. With a new storyline and such. There's just so much potential there.
They only did a 1 off special episode on BRT and EoT/EoD and then Sky. GTI had a 2 commercial trailer animations not episode. PSMD didn't have any at all.
I did try Generations, but it didn't hit me very well in the long run. Trust me, if they can pull if doing what they have I the main series right now, they can make a good PMD series. Same with how Generations and Origins were. It doesn't have to be canon. It could be it's own story or side story never heard of before.
When it comes to filler it's unavoidable. That's not really an issue. One issue to me as I mentioned was repetitiveness. So like, starting a new regions fresh, like he's never even started before, struggles yet improves until then end. When he just ends up choking. Then starts over as if it ever happened and he never grew and learned from those mistakes in the first place. Like Neo said, it's as if he's gotten younger in Sun and Moon's anime. I haven't seen any of the Sun and Moon anime yet, but I might check it out for curiosity sake. Maybe that Pikachu and Alolan Raichu episode. Give it the chance it deserves. .

Yeah Sun & Moon is quality stuff. It might seem like filler but each episode contributes something.
BW was a major disappointment for me from the start. The Sinnoh league was great, Pikachu defeated a freaking legendary Pokemon... And the next episode it loses to a brand new trainer and his new baby Snivy... Wth. So I agree with Chakra about that. Sinnoh had some great development for Ash and then they threw it all away. It's hard to stay invested when he just starts over every time. And he really needs to win a league by now... Seriously.
From what I read of the SM anime, it looks pretty interesting though, I might check it out.
I mean I can understand why Pikachu was so weak at that point, but after all they've been through at that point. Pikachu could have easily quick attacked or Iron Tailed the baby Snivy and on shot it. Whether Pikachu was sick or not. I mean it was struck by a Legendary Pokémon (Zekrom) with a powerful lightning bolt. So it had adverse effects on Pikachu
All that aside, yeah it's just not good the way things are looking. It's about time he actually wins an official League. XY&Z being the final conclusive proof to that. He has the potential, but the writers screw that over each and every time.
That's one thing I liked about the new movie. Not really spoilers, so don't worry. They bring back the old classic Ash (excluding the voice). From the way he acts so confident in his actions. Especially one big fact. When he gets serious :)
@Neo Emolga yeah and it's sad to see that potential go to such waste. FANfiction does it the service it deserves....errrr the SFW ones at least. They have that potential, but won't even give it the chance it needs or deserves.

Like I said, the Unova arc is my least favorite for a reason. The games are by far my favorite storyline of any of the games. It even outranks PMD storywise in my book. But they screwed it up so badly in the anime. It was just a mess. And given PMD has had great storylines in the past, I fear that the pattern would repeat itself if we got a full length PMD anime.
Besides I didn't like the specials all that much anyway.
The one thing I LOVED that they did with BW series. They made Team Rocket less of a joke and more of an actual THREAT. They weren't in every. Single. Episode either. They weren't just like some screw ups. They actually almost accomplished their goals and actually took time to plan hints before they acted. They didn't just show up and "we're here for your Pikachu!" Ash:"No!" Insert pointless typical battle BOOM! Blasting off yada yada. They actually had plans and just came across Ash and the others randomly. After that season. It was back to their old terrible habits of showing up when no one cares. Not even the slightest threat.

Yeah, people love to use the "Zekrom zapped Pikachu's powers" as an excuse, but dialogue was clear that only Pikachu's electricity was affected, and Pikachu has beaten several opponents without the aid of electric attacks in the past, such as in the Hoenn League, where Pikachu beat a Hitmonlee by using just Iron Tail. Yeah, Ash deliberately handicapped himself in a League fight as a self-imposed challenge and still came out on top. Then this happens.
Yeah it really just doesn't make sense. (Personally I believe they said all that for anime sake. Imagine, Pikachu's power IS it's electricity. Whenever it had strange effects on it's "electricity" at all it always had adverse affects. To have its very own 'power' affected in such a way and try to bring out something that won't work the right way? Imagine the draining feeling it would bring upon the body. Like total exhaustion on the body. Pikachu is small, so to try that hard to bring up that powerful energy? That's how I see it at anyway).
But yeah some fights he just handicaps himself for no reason. Some he'll show no restraint, others he acts as if he never knew it to begin with or doesn't know how to handle the situation.
