Mini-survey for Bulbagarden’s Japanese Name Users

Bulbasaur saying 'Fushigidane', its Japanese name

Bulbagarden is special because it’s one of the few Pokémon forums that gives certain users the freedom to use the names they want, unlike other sites which discourage usage of such names. It helps that Bulbapedia is part of their site, since it’s convenient to refer to the names (the ‘pedia entry will link to said page in certain forums).

There are quite a few people who prefers to use the Japanese names despite the fact that they are participating in an English forum, which made me curious about their habit. So, I asked them a few questions about it. After asking ten people (one of them being Bulbagarden’s webmaster Archaic), I present you with their responses. If you are as curious as I am, I urge you to read what they have to say based on the four questions I asked them.

If you also use Japanese names regularly, you could answer the following questions I asked those selected users:

  • When did you decide to use Japanese names regularly?
  • Why did you decided that the usage of Japanese names is for you?
  • Do you use Japanese names in only the anime forums, or also everywhere? If it’s the latter, why?
  • What would you tell people if they complained of your
    exclusive use of Japanese names?

Thanks for reading.
