Why You Need To Use Tags in Pokemon GO

Gotta sort ’em all!

Pokemon GO has undergone many changes in the past, but this latest update may be one of their biggest yet. Many of you may have noticed the new Tag feature when you tried appraising your newly caught Pokemon. Why would you ever use it when the search function works to quickly find what you need? It may seem a little redundant, but there are some very useful things you can’t search for, such as those Pokemon you caught during your last vacation. Below we will go over some of the different ways you can use the new tag feature to help you quickly sort through the clutter.

First thing we need to learn is how to tag. Click and hold on a Pokemon, like you would to transfer, then tap the others that you want to add to the tag. Tap the tag button, NOT THE TRANSFER BUTTON. From there tap + Add New Tag. Create a name and color for the tag (these can be changed later.) Tap the tag you just created, and voila, those Pokemon have all been tagged.

Vacations
One great use of tags is to group Pokemon you caught while on a trip to a different city. You can filter Pokemon by year in the search function using “year****” where the **** represent the year you want to filter. From there sort by recent and scroll to the time frame of your trip. Once you’ve added them you can quickly check look back on those memories.

Bragging Rights
Have you ever wanted to flex a Shiny or Legendary to your friends, only to scroll endlessly through 4000 Pokemon? Tag them and have all your bragging rights in one convenient spot.

98%

tags

It’s easy to search for you perfect 100% Pokemon, but we often forget that 98% are, realistically, just as strong. In the search bar type “3*” then appraise and tag every Pokemon missing just one stat point.

To Be Replaced
We all have those Pokemon we evolved to fill the Pokedex, but now we have stronger versions that we are waiting for more candies to evolve. Pop those older ones into a tag so you remember which ones can be transferred later. Subsequently, you can tag the Pokemon you are going to use to replace the older ones too. Thanks to @Lowercase_de for that suggestion.

Trades
Trying to find something to trade away in the spur of the moment can be tricky. You can tag Pokemon you aren’t overly attached to and wouldn’t mind trading. Pro tip: Trading the Pokemon you get from 7 km Eggs can result in greater trade distances which goes towards your pilot badge and can get you more candy when you trade.

Hope this helped you out and maybe sparked some more ideas. If you have any other uses for tags, let us know on Twitter.

See you around, Genesect!
