Podcasters Questionnaire: Not A Scratch #PokePodMonth2023

Podcaters Questionnaire
It is simply a scratch!!

July is Pokemon Podcast Month. A month where we get to celebrate our favorite Pokemon podcasts.

Pokemon Podcasts have a vast array of hosts. All of them come from various backgrounds and think in different way. The one thing that they all have in common is that they host their podcast as if they are a friend. A friend where you can come to every episode in hopes to have a conversation with them. One where you can enjoy their company for various minutes as you do something from driving, enjoying a meal or just doing something in your everyday life.

Still, as friends you want to get to know them a bit better. So we have taken the chance to ask some of your favorite Pokemon podcasters various of questions. Some of these questions range from podcasting in general to why they simply love Pokemon. Overall, we want to give you a chance to get closer to the friends that you love to listen and talk to every episode.

Today we have the following answering our Pokemon Podcast questionnaire:
Anirudh from Not A Scratch.

What drew you to the Pokemon franchise?

Not A ScratchAnirudh: My introduction to the Pokemon world came from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. While I had some knowledge of the trainer games, the concept of the Mystery Dungeon series (where you are a human turned into a Pokemon) was fascinating to me, and the amount of detail & extra events in the games really pulled me into the world.

What inspired you to podcast?

Not A ScratchAnirudh: I got inspired to start my own TTRPG podcast through listening to other Pokemon TTRPG podcasts. I really enjoyed listening to how different shows took the established Pokemon universe and introduced new, interesting story beats & characters. When making my show, I noticed that many of the shows took the perspective of a trainer on an adventure. With my background and interest in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon franchise, I wanted to make a show where you were the Pokemon, and have been doing so for over 3 years.

What is your thought process when it comes to picking music for your podcast?

Not A ScratchAnirudh: Music, whether a main track or simply background noise, is vital to building the atmosphere. The pieces picked will tell the part of the story that can’t be conveyed through words, whether adding tension to the scene, joy after a success, or disappointment after a failure.

What keeps you going when it comes to podcasting and Pokemon?

Not A ScratchAnirudh: Part of what keeps us going is the constant support from our audience. Hearing comments about our latest episodes or learning about new people that have binged the show always makes us more motivated to continue! Another thing that keeps me going is the story, and the fact that it’s not done. As the PM/DM/GM of the show, I’ve got a bunch of story beats and plot points that I want to bring aboard, and haven’t yet!

When you record your podcast, who do you wish to reach with it?

Not A ScratchAnirudh: When recording the podcast, we’re hoping to reach people that are interested in the story being told. It’s a fantasy adventure at the end of the day, and we’re hoping that listeners are people that are interested in trying to solve the mysteries of the world with our players!

What is the hardest part when it comes to podcasting?

Not A ScratchAnirudh: Personally, the hardest part in the podcasting field comes in the editing process. It’s gotten much easier after years of practice, but finding the right music piece or picking & choosing what parts of the show to highlight or cut can get complicated!

What has been the best Podcast moment you have had?

Not A ScratchAnirudh: A bunch of moments come to mind, as the show has had a plethora of high-stakes moments! One relatively recent one, though, comes in the ending of Arc 5 Ep 8, where we introduce Mega Evolution for the first time. I was personally proud of the dramatic moment that it was brought in, and the aftermath seen in Ep 9. The way that it was edited, plus one of my favorite GlitchxCity pieces, made for a great moment!

Huge thank you to Anirudh for taking the time to answer these questions.

We hope you enjoy this moment with your friend if you are a listener of this podcast. If you are not then how about you take a chance and make a new friend by listening to Not A Scratch.

Make sure to give them a review on Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcatcher! Don’t touch that Totodile! See you all next time!
