Pokemon TCG Rotation for 2020-2021

Rotation
Rotation is still coming in the future!

Pokemon has announced the format for the 2020-2021 TCG season. That means we now know which TCG set are going to rotate and which ones are going to stay. With that said, the rotation and format for the 2020-2021 season will be Team Up-on.

That means that cards printed from Team-up and beyond will be available to use in the tournament setting once the season starts again. Meanwhile, Black Star Promo cards numbered SM158 and up and SWSH001 and up.

A few things to note, all cards from Hidden Fates will be legal except for the cards that make up the Shiny Vault subset other than Lycanroc GX SV67/SV94. The Lycanroc GX that this card is based on was originally printed in Team Up which still makes it legal.

McDonald Promos that have identical function and wording that have been printed in recent sets will still be playable in the Standard format.

Pokemon did note that starting in 2021 that they will start using the regulation mark found on Sword & Shield expansions to mark Standard format legal cards. This will make it much easier to know which cards are legal and usable in the format.

This rotation will see plenty of cards leave the Standard format such as Cynthia, Escape Board, and Crushing Hammer.

It was also announce that there will be no changes to the Expanded format.

Rotation will go in effect for the Pokemon TCG starting on August 28, 2020. That means any events that will take place after that date will use the Team Up-on format.
