The Sky Jukebox #12: Hoenn Adventures

Sky Groudon

We’re back again with more sweet Pokémon jams for your listening pleasure, folks! This week I’m featuring some fantastic re-orchestrations done by Youtuber Tryce Sirus for Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Plug in those headphones, jump on in, and see the magic this musician has breathed into these nostalgic tunes!

First off is the title theme, of course—which Tryce has really fleshed out with a wide variety of instruments (not just trumpets!). This certainly gave it a grander feel, and actually reminds me of the remix done in Pokémon Colosseum.

Next is the theme for Littleroot—one of my favorite pieces from the game. Tryce captures the easy-going atmosphere of the town with this relaxing re-orchestration, switching effectively between flutes and violins to give it that pastoral feel. Also, I have to say, I’m a fan of the pizzicato strings.

Last of all is the Trainer Battle theme, and I think Tryce’s strength here is that tension-filled opening. Tryce follows that up with yet another great selection of instruments, and I particularly love the bells used from the minute mark and onward (and dat timpani! Mmh!).

Thus concludes this edition of the Sky Jukebox! Thanks for listening, and we’ll see ya next time!
