Sonia’s research results have been released!

Check out the latest magical addition to the Galar Region!

Following the 24-hour livestream in the Glimwood Tangle hinting at the existence of a new Galarian form Pokémon, Sonia’s research results have finally been released. The rumors were confirmed to be true, and Galarian Ponyta is now available as a Pokémon Shield exclusive.

Ponyta has a changed classification from Fire Horse Pokémon to Unique Horn Pokémon. It is a psychic type Pokémon and has access to two possible abilities, Run Away, and a new ability, Pastel Veil. Pastel Veil is rumored to prevent the user and allies from being Poisoned and heals Ally Pokémon of Poison when they switch in. This makes Galarian Ponyta quite the powerful counter to poison type opponents!

We also have some unique information on the little unicorn and how its appearance came to be in the Galar region.

Galarian Ponyta have been found in a certain forest of the Galar region since ancient times. It is said that they were exposed to the overflowing life energy of the forest over many generations, and this is why their appearance became unique in this region. Galarian Ponyta can absorb the life energy of the surrounding atmosphere and store it in its mane. It seems that Ponyta’s mane will become more colorful, and even emit a sparkling glow, if there is a lot of energy around.

While that’s all the information we have on Galarian Ponyta right now, it appears to be already a very popular addition to the roster. There’s rumors that Rapidash may even be Psychic/Flying, taking the form of an Alicorn. I do think it’s quite fitting that Ponyta and Rapidash return to the spotlight in this region given the national animal of Scotland is the unicorn. I, for one, am very excited to welcome this little unicorn to the pokedex, and I hope we get to see more designs soon!
