TCG Jump: Featured Card- Solgaleo Prism Star

Solgaleo PSThis card will shine like the sun!

We are in the mists of League Cup and Regionals. Several decks are trying to make their mark on the Pokemon TCG. Meanwhile, other decks are simply trying to hold their place in the meta. It is a battle to the top and there are several cards that are being used to give decks an edge. This week’s card can give a new meaning to heavy metal as it can energize any card on your field. It can also hit pretty hard. No matter how you use this card, it will leave an impression on the game. Get ready as we feature Solgaleo Prism Star!

Solgaleo Prism Star is a Basic Pokemon from Ultra Prism. It has 160 HP and is a Metal type Pokemon. As a Prism Star, it follows the Prism Star Rule which states that there can only be one Solgaleo PS in your deck. If this card goes into the Discard then it will instead go to the Lost Zone. Solgaleo PS has two attacks. The first attack is called Radiant Star which cost a single Metal energy. This attack allows you to attach Metal energy from your discard pile to your Pokémon in any way you like for each Pokemon that your opponent has on their field. Solgaleo PS can also attack with Corona Impact which does 160 damage. If you use this attack then Solgaleo PS can’t attack next turn. This card has a weakness to Fire, resist Psychic and has a retreat of four energy.

The Pros

Zoroark GXSolgaleo Prism Star is an amazing Metal energy accelerator. It can move energy from the discard for a single energy if your opponent has a lot of Pokemon on their bench. That is good because right now it seems like everybody has a full bench by their end of their second turn. You can take full advantage of this if your opponent is playing a Zoroark GX deck that loves to fill up their bench.

Though this card really shines at the end of the game where it can retrieve massive amounts of Metal energy to give you a second wind. Towards the end of the match, you are always short on energy and need to fuel up a Pokemon to take the final knockout. Solgaleo PS can help with that. You can simply put it in the active and accelerate energy for as long as you need it to.

What is even better is that Solgaleo PS is a single prize Pokemon. You can hide behind it for a few turns to accelerate energy to a benched Pokemon. It has 160 HP so it will take a few hits to knockout Solgaleo PS.

If you do need to attack with it then Corona Impact will leave an impact on your opponent’s Pokemon. It can hit for 160 damage. If you attach a Choice Band then that can knockout a Tapu Lele GX or Buzzwole GX.

The Cons

The biggest problem with Solgaleo Prism Star is that once it is gone then it is gone! If you play this card too early and it gets knockout then it will not be coming back thanks to the Prism Star Rule. Your opponent uses Guzma to pull Solgaleo PS into the active to knock it out? Into the Lost Zone! No late game energy acceleration for you!

Rocket's handyworkWhat if your opponent uses Team Rocket’s Handiwork and get a heads? What if one of the two cards that was discarded was Solgaleo PS? Then say good bye to Solgaleo PS because it got sent to the Lost Zone without you even getting it in your hand. Just remember that this situation can be possible thanks to Stall/Mill decks that play plenty of Team Rocket’s Handiwork.

Another thing that could be bad is if you have a full bench and Solgaleo PS is in your hand with a Professor Sycamore. You will need to make some tough decisions that will involve discarding your Solgaleo PS or not playing your only draw Supporter. This tough choice may result in you having to put Solgaleo PS in your Lost Zone.

The last big negative to using Solgaleo PS is that your opponent may have a small bench. Your opponent may anticipate your future Radiant Star attack to accelerate energy. So they may not bench any Pokemon after a few knockouts to minimize your energy acceleration. That could throw off your plan for a late game comeback.

How to Play It

You will use Solgaleo Prism Star in your Metal deck as a form of energy acceleration. The first thing you will need to do is discard Metal energy. That way Solgaleo PS can accelerate as many Metal energy as it can when you do use it.

This can be done by simply using your Metal energy to pay for cards like Ultra Ball. Simply pick one or two Metal energy to use Ultra Ball’s effect and that is already some Metal energy in the discard! You can also use Professor Sycamore to discard a few Metal Energy.

Though if you want partner up Solgaleo PS with a Pokemon then there are a few good candidates. There is always Zoroark GX who needs something to be discarded to use the Trade ability. Why not Metal energy so you can use a strong Radiant Star attack later?

Dusk Mane NecrozmaNow, if you want to hit hard while discarding energy then there is always Solgaleo GX and Dusk Mane Necrozma GX. Both of these Pokemon are Metal type Pokemon that have a strong attack that discards energy after using them. Their attacks pretty much are one time use but they both have plenty of HP to live a hit or two. Solgaleo PS will help these Pokemon get even more mileage by using Radiant Star. One Radiant Star can get these Pokemon ready to go in no time!

Solgaleo Prism Star can see use in any kind of Metal deck that needs a quick energy accelerator. May it be in a build that focus on Zoroark GX and Solgaleo GX. Perhaps in a build that favors Dusk Mane Necrozma GX and Garbodor. Either way, this card will shine bright and bring in plenty of energy! This card can be used to give your attackers a quick recharge to take your winning knockout!
