Well in all fairness Brandon's pokemon wanted to do it, they would rather go out fighting then stand by in pokeballs and watch it happen. Brandon and his pokemon knew they were going to lose, but winning wasn't the point of battling the detective, it is a show of force, to show that whoever is after them, will know that they are going to do it too easily, it was to show that no matter what, the team (or atleast Brandon) will not be taken prisoner easily.
I will just along with everything as I am sure Max has a plan and that surely we will not be sent to a prison or go on trial or anything and that somehow the team will be free again at some point.
