Detective Pikachu Movie! In Talks ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Gravity Falls’ Writers!

Detective Pikachu
Production for the live action Detective Pikachu has started with writers being brought on-board. It is curious because some of these writers are coming from big name productions that you may know.

We learned last month that the rights for a live action Pokemon movie was acquire by Legendary Entertainment. We didn’t know too many details except that it will feature Detective Pikachu from the Japanese only Pokemon game that features a talking Pikachu who solves crimes with a young boy. It has now been reported by Variety that writers Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch are in negotiations to write the live action Pokemon movie.

Perlman-Hirsch Pokemon

You may not know Nicole Perlman but you are familiar with some of her works. If you have gone to the movies in the last few years to see any Marvel films then you have most likely seen “Thor” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Both of these movies were penned by Perlman. She is currently working on writing for “Captain Marvel” and a third “Sherlock Holmes featuring Robert Downey Jr.

If you know animation then maybe you have heard of Alex Hirsch and Gravity Falls. The forty episode series, Gravity Falls, ended back in February but still has a strong fan following. Currently Hirsch is said to be working on a pilot for Fox.

It is interesting to note that Hirsch is a known Pokemon fan. He has drawn the 2016 Presidential Candidates as Pokemon. Hirsch also visited Game Freak back in February with his wife during their trip to Japan. Hirsch was able to meet with Tetsuya Watanabe, Junichi, Masuda, Ken Sugimori and James Turner. He even got a drawing from Sugimori that was signed by him and Masuda!

Maybe there was some talks about possibly writing a Pokemon movie back then? Who knows but it seems like production has begun for the Detective Pikachu movie!
