I work in retail and sell laptops for a living at Walmart and I dont think our most expensive one goes above 600 bucks and those babies will do just any job the average person needs it to do. $1200 seems like alot of money for laptop, so either this thing is extremelly advanced, or someone or someplace over charged for it (reminds me of a company by the nake of Apple lol) and ya bought it lol.

Anyway, the most expensive thing I bought was vehicle off craigslist that ran very well for 2 and a half days, until it had some sort of electrical fire (or so we believe anyway, no way to ever find out for sure) and caught fire. So yeah for 2 days it was the best investment ever, but then it became the worst investment ever in the snap of a finger. Know I was very mad about the money wasted on this 'looked like an extremelly good car' that caught fire. I felt like I may as well took a pile of the cash and struck a match to it. That was esstenially how it felt. Lol

On the bright side though, no one was hurt or killed in the fire so thats always a plus. ;)

Now back to driving my dads hyaundi. Lol
Australia has everything more expensive. Laptops especially. You look to spend about $1000 on a fairly decent mid range laptop.

Start of this year I had a car accident. I was fine and my car was fine (there were no other cars involved) but I did damage to property totalling at near $3000. Had to claim it on insurance which cost me $1700 and I had no savings. Parents bailed me out and I payed them back for every cent. Other than that. I paid for a 1/4 of my car ($1200). My guitar that I play most was about $900 I think.

@brandon_g haha! Yeah I wasn't intending to spend a lot but its a high end gaming laptop. I can play any new game on max settings pretty much. It was second hand too... They go for over $2000 new! xD so yeah its basically a desktop replacement and gaming laptop. Still a lot of money, I know @_@ and yeah as Jacob said, everything is really expensive here xD

Wow that sucks so much about the car catching fire after only 2 days! You couldn't get your money back or anything?

Wait, isn't spending $1,400 on a laptop normal? xD For school in year 9 (2008), we had to buy shoddy Macbooks that cost around $1,700. Lol. I mean, that was definitely rubbish, but back then they did cost more. I'd NEVER spend that much on a laptop but $1,400 doesn't sound like an absolutely enormous amount.

Nowadays no. Back then I bought a mid-tier laptop that is like a billion pounds like 10 years ago for ~2000 bucks or so. Nowadays high end gaming laptops are in the 1400 range. Heck my rig right now is ~1200 or so and it's a great rig already.

    It's being called by someone
It's being able to call someone
It's when someone is thinking of you
But Heaven has none of this

That is because it was a macbook and Apple over charges for EVERYTHING , but in general no, here in the states you can get a good laptop for 600 bucks or less and it will last you a good few years.

Sarah, the fact that it is a gaming laptop makes more sense and does help justify the costs a little bit.

No I couldn't get the money back because my folks had deleted the guys phone number and email address, but even if I had it, there is no way to know if the guy would give it back to me, that is the risk you take when you buy something 'as is'.

Really everything is more expensive in Australia? Well then remind me not to move there then. Lol

We need to get you get guys some walmarts because your stores up there are over charging you all and putting bigger holes in your pocket lol. Here you could probably get two or three decent laptops for thousand bucks lol.

Yeah that sounds about right. XD

Well everything in electronics. Our new DS games come out at $60 here, standard price. $50 if you find it cheaply. For console or PC games, $100 is standard, or $80 if you get it cheaply. YAY US. (Everything else - non-electronics - is relatively the same, I think.)

Yep definitelly need to get you all Walmarts lol. Console games new here usually range from 40 to 70 bucks new, I haven't seen anything over 80 bucks really yet in my year working in the electronics department of walmart lol.

100 bucks is crazy for a game! Lol

Bearing in mind the conversion rate. One Australian Dollar is equivalent to 0.76 American Dollars. So $100 in the Aus would be $76 in the US.

Unless this was already taken into account.

EDIT: And for my nation's currency, things currently stand at 0.76 Great British Pounds to the American Dollar, and 0.58 GBP to the Australian Dollar. Of course, this is after my nation's stupid and ridiculous decision to leave the European Union. Our currency was even stronger before that.

No, it has nothing to do with the exchange rate. It's GST on electronics, or something else equally as stupid. When our dollar was worth more than the US dollar (I think it was mid 2012), prices were exactly the same. It's just how much it costs here because of tax or something dumb (never looked it up; just been told things).

Brandon, I agree that $100 for a game is definitely too steep. xD

Indeed, but were Brandon to purchase a game in your currency, it would not cost him nearly as much in his own. That's all I meant.
