That's the nice thing about forums and the way it preserves everything better. It's much easier to take a trip down memory lane.
I feel like there's got to be some little activity we can do here to get this place kicking out from the dust just a little more. A small RP, some small event or game, just anything. Something we remnant folk can do. xD
I'm still here, still brainstorming how to go about doing this. It would need to be something fun and simple that as many people can get into as possible without that much previous experience.
Maybe just start it off as a roll call to see who is still around and what kinds of things they'd be open to do. I think it's worth a shot.
I find it so interesting how spammers have evolved. They've gotten pretty good. I guess with all the AI stuff we won't be able to tell who is real anymore at some point. xD
Kinda weird they still bother to make spambots for forums considering how few people use them these days though!
Also hi :)
Hey there, good to see you, Sarah! Yeah, I really wish people would go back to forums. Discord gets really dull after a while and I can’t do the same kinds of things I did on forums, like Pikachu Survivor Game, Stalkers, Devolution Battle Royale, and all the other fun forum events we used to have. It’s good for game voice chat, but the communities are just eh and there’s really not all that much you can do with them. Forums always offered so much more to do.
In terms of bots, I’ve heard of the “Dead Internet” theory that foresees bots just communicating to other bots and real human users won’t know who is real and who is just AI and as a result, people abandon talking online and go back to socializing in person. Every day it seems more and more like we may one day encounter this.
In other news, I’m looking forward to ArtFight in July this year. I need to make a bunch of new character reference sheets to prep, but it’s always fun and the thing I enjoy the most about it is attacking random people on the opposite team who don’t me and seeing how they react!
Nice to see you Neo! I'm glad to see someone still visiting!! :) I could never get into discord. The immediate messaging thing just doesn't appeal to me. I like being able to respond to different stuff at leisure and I am not good at responding on the spot haha. I didn't have easy computer access for the last 5-6 years and kind of stopped doing anything online. Just got a new set up but everything I used to do online is kind of dead so no idea what to do with it!!
I have heard of that too and I reckon it will definitely become more true as time goes on. I'm kind of hoping the AI succeeds in destroying the net at this point (or at least social media). Would be kind of nice if everyone went back outside haha!In terms of bots, I’ve heard of the “Dead Internet” theory that foresees bots just communicating to other bots and real human users won’t know who is real and who is just AI and as a result, people abandon talking online and go back to socializing in person. Ooh what's ArtFight? It sounds cool though. Awesome that you're still keeping up with the art! Do you have any recent art? I bet your stuff has continued to improve since I was last around! :)In other news, I’m looking forward to ArtFight in July this year. Yeah, while Discord offers a few more features than what Skype did, I just feel like it doesn’t offer enough functionality the way forums do. And like you said, it’s possible and relatively quick to dig up things that are 5-6 years old. With Discord, it’s very difficult as things that are even just 24 hours old can get buried quickly. And in large communities, you kind of just feel like a speck in the chat as people are just swarm-posting memes, emotes, and other fluff and stuff. I’m just not a fan and I did give it several years but ultimately I don’t find myself warming up to it.
ArtFight is quite a bit of fun and how it works is relatively simple. It lasts all through July and participants are split into two teams. You “attack” people by drawing art of their original characters and they have the option to counter that attack by drawing one of yours! The more effort you put into the attack, the more points its worth!
For me, I enjoy finding random peeps on the opposite team who put their ArtFight Profile Card on DeviantArt. I see what kinds of characters they have and I attack them. They NEVER see me coming and the reactions are priceless. I also like doing a tag search on people who have original characters of Pokémon I like and I attack those, too.
But in all, it’s mainly for fun and it does really motivate you to go on an art grind that also helps you improve and have fun along the way. This is going to be my third year doing it and quite honestly, I don’t know why I was hesitant to get into it sooner. It’s great and nothing to be shy or anxious about!
In terms of recent art, I have these as some of my best!
