Alice's eyes widened when the man mentioned fugitives. She was immediately suspicious. She looked down at Aster, glad he was close. If the man made a grab for a Pokeball, Aster would be on him in seconds.

"But hell that was just an example right Alice." He said.

Alice felt her mouth go dry. How could he know her name? How did he recognise her? A thousand thoughts ran through her head and she struggled to grasp one. She needed to get away from here and fast... But she couldn't lead him to the rest of the group. She would have to make a run for it, further up the path...

'For now though..lets just say I wanted to make a bet with you. Just a fun little bet what would you say." The man continued. Alice hardly heard him over the beating of her own heart. But then something shot out of the grass. Alice saw a flash of yellow eyes and then she was paralysed. An Arbok! Alice saw, though she couldn't move. The lack of response from Aster told her that he had been hit as well. Alice tried to reach her bag with her Pokeballs in it, but it was no use. She couldn't even scream...

"If you want to make the bet just blink." he smiled

Alice looked at the man now, not taking her eyes off him. She had no choice... She could only play along and hope the others would be along soon.

With a heavy feeling in her chest, Alice blinked.

Rose knew that, although it was important that everyone agreed, the final decision was going to be hers. "I think it's okay." She said. Rocky still didn't seem sure (mostly because we're moving so fast that we didn't even give him a chance to post yet), but Rose really didn't think the psychic types meant any harm. "Let's let them come with us." She said. She wasn't sure why the drowzee even wanted to help them, but she wasn't complaining. They needed any help that they could get at this point. Rose was a bit worried about Alice, but she didn't voice her concerns. She was sure Alice was fine.

"Now then." the PI said Arbok slithered around picking the trainer up. It lifted her high enough to see her friends in the distance. However she was hidden in the treeline from anyone looking that way.

" Your friends they are about drawn into an old con trick. Who side do they choose? Do they defend the Guru or do they defend the Drowzee?" The man looked up.

"Choose real carefully, one blink for the man, two blinks for the Drowzee. If you win ill leave without any trouble. However if I win I will be taking your pokemon with me. So choose carefully."

On the other end Rose spoke up. The Drowzee seemed very relieved. However once the connection with the man was gone he rushed over to Rocky.
"Please help me! Defeat those monsters. I have been under their control for days! It started off as just a trick but when they teamed up I had no control I was forced for days to play the same over and over. When you saw me I came rushing over to try and help you guys. I didnt want any other trainers to get hurt by them!" He pleeded

the guru pointed at them.
"Monsters!"

The Drowzee didnt seem to agree. Shaking there heads.
"Droo Droo Zee" the leader said at Rose.

Alice felt her head spin as she was lifted into the air. She could see her friends... So close... But there was no way they could see her.

A tear rolled down Alice's cheek. She would rather be captured herself than lose her Pokemon. She tried to look at Aster but he was out of sight now.

She thought about her friends. They cared about Pokemon. If the Pokemon were being hurt, Alice knew they would help them. But there was something off about those Drowzee... She had felt it herself. Surely the others would see it too... Or was she just being prejudiced because of her fear?

There were too many variables. Alice was exhausted. Her frozen body felt heavier than usual.

She blinked once. Drowzee could manipulate people's dreams. Psychic types were always dangerous. She had felt it herself as a child. But would her friends know that? Surely they would defend the guru... She hoped.

Rose had chosen to accept these creatures, and Rocky chose to trust her.

As the Drowzee left the old man, however, the truth became apparent.

"Please help me! Defeat those monsters. I have been under their control for days! It started off as just a trick but when they teamed up I had no control I was forced for days to play the same over and over. When you saw me I came rushing over to try and help you guys. I didnt want any other trainers to get hurt by them!" the old man pleaded.

Rocky had felt that something was off but hadn't been sure what. Now he knew for sure.

"These things are dangerous! They will try to control us! Defend yourselves!" He called to the others.

"Don't listen to him Rocky, he's lying, he knows he has lost his pokemon and so whats us to turn against them because he is no longer their trainer" Brandon yelled. Clearly Brandon was under the Drowzee's control.

"Look out Rose! I think they have taken control of Brandon!"

Rocky called out Parasect and Abra and prepared to defend himself against these psychic horrors and anyone controlled by them!

Alice felt lightheaded. For a moment she panicked. Was the paralysis getting worse?! Her eyes widened and she tried to force her muscles into action, but it was a futile effort. Then she seemed a familiar scent... Even though he was still frozen, Aster's flower gave off its usual sweet smell. It calmed Alice and she realised she had merely been holding her breath, waiting to see what her friends would decide.

Rose would have an affinity with the Drowzee, she knew. Their Psychic abilities might endear them to her. And Brandon... He would be more trusting of a Pokemon than a trainer... And Alice believed he would side with Rose. She could sense that maybe there was something more between them...

But Rocky... Alice hoped he wouldn't be so trusting. She remembered the suspicions he had at the Pokemon center and hoped that he could stand up to the other two.

But even then... Alice was quite sure the man in the red coat wouldn't let her go so easily. She hoped her friends would arrive soon.

Alice saw a flash of red and Rocky had sent out his Pokemon... It was yet unclear who he was going to fight.

The sudden turn of events had surprised Rose. Could the drowzee really have been meaning to deceive them? Rose didn't see why the man would lie about something like that. "Don't listen to him Rocky, he's lying, he knows he has lost his pokemon and so whats us to turn against them because he is no longer their trainer". Rose heard Brandon say. Now she didn't know what to think.

"Look out Rose! I think they have taken control of Brandon!" Rocky shouted.

"Wait, what?" Rose questioned, now completely confused. Was it possible that Brandon was under control too? If that was true, there was no way to know for sure aside from taking out the drowzee. But she didn't want to just attack them either. She felt guilty, but she knew they were better safe than sorry. "We can't afford to take any chances right now." Rose said. She hated feeling like the decision was hers, but Rocky's statement had made Rose paranoid. What if the drowzee really were controlling brandon?

Just when Rose thought she was past the trouble of having to choose to let the Drowzee come along. The next bad thing happened. Now she found herself siding with Rocky and calling for the team battle the Drowzee off. When Rocky called out his pokemon to battle the confused Drowzee moved into defensive positions.

The Drowzee prepared to defend themselves. The old Guru got behind the team.
"I have no pokemon to help I am so sorry."

From a distance Alice had seen how it had played out. She had not lost the bet and was promptly lowered down. She in a frozen like state the man approached.
" Well, trainer...It turns out you made the right call. Let her go Arbok." He ordered as the Arbok dropped back.

"Now then about the bet. Im a man of my word. Heres a paraylize heal." he smiled putting it down a couple of feet from Alice.

"IM also not going to take your pokemon." He said backing off.
"But I cant speak for Arbok." He smiled as Arbok scooped up Ivysaur.

The two quickly darted off into the tall grass. To make matters worse the sun was setting making each bit a light fade quickly.

With the man out of sight Alice heard the bushes rustling. From behind her stepped the only thing that could have made her being frozen worse.

"Drowzee??" the curious pokemon asked looking at the stiff trainer

"Drowzee???" it said getting closer to her. The pokemon poked her confused why she wasnt moving. It quickly jumped back and ran off. After a minute it poked its head out.

"Drow drowzee!!" it said looking around then it noticed the mixer.

"Drowzee?"

Alice was starting to be able to move again slightly. Still not enough to move but enough to fall over and slightly move her hands and talk sofly.

Alice's heart lightened as she saw the Drowzee move to attack her friends. She was worried about them, but she had been right... She was lowered to the ground, but still unable to move. She looked at the red coat man, wondering if he would really let her go...

"Now then about the bet. Im a man of my word. Heres a paraylize heal." he smiled putting it down a couple of feet from Alice.

Alice looked down at it, but was still unable to move. Maybe everything was going to be okay after all...

Alice tried to scream but her throat was still frozen. Aster was paralysed too, unable to do anything. Tears ran down Alice's cheeks as the pair disappeared with her Pokemon. The sun had begun to set, and they disappeared easily into the fading light. Alice struggled with everything she had, trying to overcome the paralysis, but it was no use.

She heard a rustle from the bushes. She watched hopefully. Did Aster escape and come back to her? But no... a yellow snout protruded from the bush, followed by the full form of a Drowzee. If she wasn't already frozen, she would have been now. She struggled again to break free. If she could talk, she would have been screaming. As it was, she was surrounded by silence with no option but to watch the dreaded Pokemon approach. She struggled to keep her breathing even. The last thing she wanted to do was hyperventilate and black out, leaving herself completely open to whatever the Drowzee would do to her. She wondered if it could eat her dreams if she was unconscious.

"Drowzee??" the Pokemon said. Its voice sent shivers down Alice's spine. It approached her and reached out a horrible clawed hand toward her. Alice tried to squirm away but it was no use. Was this part of that evil con that her friends were dealing with? Was it sent to catch her? Was it going to take control of her?

But no, it merely poked at her and then seemingly startled, ran off into the bushes again. Alice felt a wave of cool relief wash over her, but the Pokemon wasn't gone; it poked its head back out of the bushes a minute later.

"Drow drowzee!!" It looked around her, noticing the paralyse heal on the ground. "Drowzee?" It seemed to be a question.

Alice forced herself to look back at the Drowzee. She couldn't sense anything bad about it, not like the ones she had seen earlier. But maybe the paralysis was affecting her senses. It's just a Pokemon... she thought. Just like Plume... just like Aster... she sobbed, surprised when her throat moved to make the small noise. With every second Aster was getting further away. How would she ever find him again, out there in the world? The thought made her sick to her stomach. Her trainer's instincts kicked in. Didn't she tell Meg she would do anything to protect her Pokemon? And here she was... letting that man get away because she was scared of a Drowzee... a Pokemon...

This time when she struggled, she felt her muscles respond. She tipped to the side, able to move her hands just slightly, enough to break her fall. But she couldn't move any more than that. The paralyse heal was still too far away.

She looked up at the Drowzee. A scene so similar to the one she had faced as a child. But she was stronger now. She had faced more in the last few days than child-Alice could have dreamed of.

"Please.... help...." she managed to croak softly. Her throat was dry and sore. She moved one hand slightly, twitching towards the paralyse heal, and hoped the Drowzee would understand. She would do anything for Aster. Anything.

Drowzee was scared of Alice. Her expression and her movement was not what she was expecting. She backed off quickly. Drowzee could sense this trainers fear and in turn it made her stressed out. However when Alice fell over her first reaction was to rush over and help her up. She stopped short as Alice didnt seem to want Drowzee near her. When Alice finally spoke Drowzee listened grabbing the paralyze heal. She walked over and without waiting poured it down Alices throat.

It took a little over ten minutes for it to work but Alice was able to get up after that and move. Drowzee unsure of what to do followed behind the confused looking trainer. A short ways up the path Alice hit a fork in the road. It was to hard to pick one path without knowing. What would she do to find the right path?
