Rose sensed Brandon's smile, and although she wasn't completely sure what he was smiling about, she smiled back simply because she thought it was what he either wanted or expected her to do.

"Mega punch." Rose said quietly to Magnus, stating the move she'd like him to teach her Mankey. Magnus taught her Pokemon first, then Brandon's Caterpie and Meghan's Heracross. At the end, he gave them some words of encouragement. "Thank you!" Rose said shyly yet happily.
