"OK wish me luck. I'm going to hold out as long as I can. I still have 6 Pokemon and Fury and Behemoth still haven't battled yet." Rocky said, deciding not to use the machine just yet.

He looked at Fury and Behemoth. "Are you two ready to battle? Have you been doing those exercises I set you?"

Behemoth Blew out a stream of sand, and Fury shot a flamethrower directly into the stream of sand. A resulting glob of superheated glass hit the Stone support of the bridge, giving it a shiny polished look.

"Wow you two have really gotten strong." Rocky said, examining them closer.

Three of Alice's Pokemon had been wiped out, and Archen was only just holding on, panting heavily on her shoulder. She wasn't sure she would be able to finish the tournament. She began looking for another way to get through. They had to find Max's base NOW. She looked over the edge of the bridge. If only she had a water type to ferry her across... She wished she had brought her Pidgeotto.

She glanced across at the others. Meg's opponent had an Aerodactyl! It was so strong and impressive. Alice hoped she would be able to own one, one day.

Rocky looked at the Pokemon released by the Ace trainer.

It was the worst case scenario. The gloom would be easy enough, but two fully evolved water types, both of which had secondary types designed to stop poison types and a Fighting type. It was as if this team had been specifically designed to ensure to ensure that Rocky could not possibly win.

Rocky looked up at the sneering face of the trainer facing him and came to a realization. This wasn't random, someone had studied the weaknesses of his team and engineered a team to take him out of the competition. Rocky must have angered someone powerful. He didn't regret not healing his Pokemon, he wouldn't have stood a chance anyway.

Despite realising that he had no chance, Rocky stood up and accepted the challenge.

"hope you're not expecting me to back down." Rocky said to the his opponent. "You may have brought the right Pokemon to take down my team, but we can weaken you enough to ensure you don't make it through the next round!"

"That sounds like a good idea. I agree, someone doesn't us to get across this bridge and is putting a lot of resources into doing it. I'll swap Poketechs with you and make a run for it when you make the distraction. Perhaps we should get the others to help as well, a couple of Smokescreens from their Charmeleons would also help cover my escape."

"Ack!" the Archen on Alice's shoulder squawked, and flapped her stubby wings.

"I hope the others are having better luck out there!" she said loudly for the benefit of anyone nearby. "I'm going to go check on Meg and Rose," she said, intending to tell them to use their Fire-types next round.
