Toonophilia (romantic attraction to characters)

bumping this thread because i relate to it on a molecular level

I used to get SO romantically attached to characters when I was in my early/mid-teens; Tyson from Beyblade and Sokka from The Last Airbender were the biggest ones, plus Shadow the Hedgehog which totally weirded me out (it just made me really uncomfortable knowing I was attracted to a hedgehog). Then as I got a bit older it became all girls - Konata from Lucky Star was the main one, I was in love with her for a good two years.

It sort of died out when I started dating irl though. To be honest, I think it was a vent for my loneliness/repressed bisexuality more than a genuine romantic attraction to characters. Now I'm comfortable with who I am and in a committed relationship, I don't feel the need to rely on a fantasy relationship with a fictional character anymore [/psychologydegree]. The only character it's happened with in the past few years was Ellie from The Last Of Us, but that wasn't really surprising because I'm obsessed with Ellen Page so obviously I'd fall in love with a character based off her xD

I was uncomfortably attracted to some of the fan art of older Misty. Even though she isnt a little girl in the art, she is still relatively young and im definitely not into that lol. Just some of the cosplayers and the older fan art (no dirty art) kind of made me have slight thing for when i was younger. I actually added this into my long time fan fic and its the reason my character max always likes her. But he is the same age she is and he mostly just has an innocent crush so it feels less creepy.

XD I don't think that's that weird. Me being attracted to a hedgehog when I was 11 was weirder. XD Honestly I've always seen Misty as, like, in her twenties. Same with Team Rocket. They're all too 'officially' young. Haha, I love that you live through Max.
