Alice held her breath as they were led into the basement and past prison cells. She glanced into every one, but most of them were empty. Her heart beat fast in her chest. She couldn't help feeling hopeful even though she knew it was a long shot.

The soldier leading them finally pointed to a cell. It was the last one. As she got closer, she saw a figure sitting at the back of the cell. "It can't be..." she whispered in disbelief. He had a nasty scar and some of his hair had turned white. But it was him... She couldn't believe it. After all this time... after Rose had told them he was lost forever... Tears welled in Alice's eyes, but she blinked them away hastily.

She stood just outside the cell. A million questions ran through her mind. Would Max even remember her and Brandon after everything he'd been through? Was he still the same person? Would he be angry that they let Rose turn into a monster? Max sat quietly, staring at the ground. "Max," Alice said softly, though her voice echoed in the corridor. She knelt down on the cold ground. "Is that really you? Do you... do you remember me?"
