I think what happened is when Gemma completed the game, drew a picture based on the ending, and shared it with people here, the interest was reignited for people who played it before and some people, like myself, were only discovering it for the first time. Suddenly people discovered PXR has a hidden gathering of Undertale players and bam, it was circulated around and all these trends sprung up.

I guess you only have one person to blame (well two really) for the Undertale party. So if you wanna throw that out blame the Pika Pair. I got Gemma into it and she was so excited that she drew her sudden inspiration out and then BAM! Suddenly it ignited and everyone wants an icon as well.
