The search engine that plants trees!

I only just found out about this alternative search engine to your Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. It's called Ecosia, and its ad revenue profits go toward planting trees in certain parts of the world. So every time you "google" something with Ecosia, you plant one tree. Up the top right-hand corner of your screen, there'll be a little tree icon which will have a number that shows you how many trees you have planted since using Ecosia.

Here's a little excerpt of the work they do:

"Eden Reforestation Projects, on the coasts of Madagascar, is one of the world’s most cost effective and prolific tree planting programs. The organisation empowers hundreds of Madagascans by employing local villagers and training them how to plant the trees that will once again provide for their communities. The ecological impact of the reforestation projects is huge; the mangrove trees that are planted along the coast are very efficient at absorbing carbon dioxide and create the ideal breeding grounds for the fish that are so important for the biodiverse region. The Eden planters are currently planting more than 16 million trees a year and with the help of Ecosia, they will be able to plant many more and continue to radically improve the lives of the Madagascan people."

It's pretty much like Google, but with small changes. Unfortunately the top few sites that come up are ads, but that's how they generate their revenue and plant the trees, so to me, it's a small price to pay.

So, if you're interested in using Ecosia, even for a bit, or even just sometimes, it'll all help! 8D

I promise I'm not an adbot. xD I just thought it would be an awesome thing to share!

This is a neat idea! More big companies should do stuff like this. xD I will try to use it if I remember!

Hopefully it's better than Bing. That thing NEVER gives me the right results. o_o

I agree! Big companies don't tend to care about the earth, though. x__x

Bing is hilarious. XD I have never (intentionally) used it. And as far as I can tell, Ecosia gives me great results. Not quite sure that they're 100% as good as Google's results, but if you can't find what you're after, then know that you've planted a few trees and go back to Google. XD Even just for that search. But for something really quick like "Umbreon" obviously using Ecosia will give you the same Bulbapedia, Serebii, etc. results that you'd get through google anyway so it's a great idea to use it for basic searches, in the least.

Haha Bing is the worst! That's good that Ecosia is better. Honestly I only sue it by accident too when it is the default on things and even if I type the EXACT NAME of a journal article or something in there, it has NO IDEA! o_o I go to google and type the same thing and get exactly what I wanted. It's ridiculous. Like do people actually use Bing?! xD

But yay for trees! I'm sure Google already gives to charities and stuff (I hope) but they could do so much by donating such a small % of their profits on searching!

XD Bing. Even the name is humorous. YOU SUE IT BY ACCIDENT?! Maybe that's why Bing doesn't like you! /badjoke But yeah, google wins in my books. xD And Ecosia. C: I'm gonna use it until I find a reason not to, haha.

Yeah, I'm sure it does. x) I think this way, it makes users feel like THEY'RE the ones making a difference. Hehe. Which is true.
