Most of the fun of WAR for me was making a team and recruiting and making everyone banners and fostering a friendly team spirit! So I've never liked the idea of drafts and stuff like that, it makes it all too serious. But I think I'll just stay right out of the planning. If you guys wanna try it again, I'll support you. But I also think we've done a lot of great other events and we were doing good focusing on those rather than one huge one!

Therefore my suggestions to you guys are to try and make it a smaller thing like our other events, leave out the large scale RPGs which were a bit exclusive anyway, have more fun one-off events and just have 3 weeks since activity always drops rapidly after that anyway. If it's not such a huge thing maybe everyone won't be majorly burnt out and go inactive afterwards, like Max was saying. xD

I'd like to do a Pokemon GO Johto version at some point this year (but actually planned out this time since I know what I'm doing! xD) and I know we have Stalkers coming, and Easter and plenty of other fun stuff. Maybe try and make WAR just one of many events instead of the be all and end all, then people might not take it as seriously also!
A shorter WAR could help out with that activity afterwords and that was my concern. The drama was annoying but it shouldnt be enough to stop a whole new group of forum members from being apart of WAR.

There were a lot of great WARs in the past. I have seen some great suggestions on here of how to help avoid some of the things that didnt work out last time. Shorter time, events to make more people feel included. Great suggestions overall.

We just need to try these ideas and make it plain as day that while you may not like this idea yourself we are going to try it out and would really appreciate if you could stick around for the whole month so we can get some honest to god feedback. It's only going to last a month and we can't really see what works if people up and leave just because they didn't get on the same team as their friends.

I think this is the best move to make. We'll never know if these changes work if we don't give it another try. I think we should continue to discuss among one another what should be improved and how those things can be improved. Once we feel that we have a system that's significantly better than what's been had in the past, we can than move forward into setting a date to give it a spin (if that's something that the majority agrees upon). If it doesn't work, at least we tried and we'll then know that it may just be best to leave WAR in the past. If it does work, then great. We could keep the good and continue to improve for future WARs.

We've got to take risks though.

Exactly! I think the discussion alone is very productive. Getting feedback from the last war, however badly it went, is vital to shaping future events. If we know what people did and didn't like, we can prevent the same mistakes. That's the main reason I was upset when the original discussion got locked so quickly.

If we do WAR again, it'd be a great trial run to test out changes. I'm not sure if it'll be a huge success, but at the very least, we should get some idea on whether the changes to the system would be well-received or not. If it's better and people have a great time- perfect! If not, we learn more on what people like/dislike in events and use that information to influence future events (not just War).

Anyway, if we do end up doing war again this summer, I'm willing to help set things up and whatnot. I should have time in the summer for that kind of thing.

    Exactly.

It comes down to working together to tackle issues and try new things rather than be divided and stick to the norm.

So let me ask you all this: Who would honestly like to help plan our next WAR? The reason I ask now is so we can slowly start to work on things now rather than at the last minute per say. I feel like if we really want to do this we should try it and not just be all talk about it.

I've already said I'd be willing to help if needed. Up to you guys though! I'm indifferent on whether or not we should do it.

    • Set number of teams. Perhaps six?
    • Members are drafted first. Once initial draft is complete, then the team theme is discussed and decided on so everyone gets a chance to have a say in it and come to an agreement upon something generally everyone in the group likes.
    • 4 Week duration. I find this has worked out the best and balances it between having enough to enjoy but not run too long until it becomes bland.
    • 100 points per section per week. Judge allocates points based on quality percentage, but every entry gets at least 1 point (1 would mean it's really terrible quality, but at least something was done). A lot of entries means points will be thinned out among all of them, but a few entries means there's likely more points that will be awarded to those few participants.

That's the best I can come up with. It bears in mind Neko's idea where participants at least get something for their efforts, but still judges based primarily on quality.
I do agree with this one. I know WAR caused drama, but there's a way to address it all and get it running all over again for sure. I do think everything team wise needs to be chosen through the team itself. Agreements are good to decide on as a "team."

The 4 week duration is perfect I'd say. If needed, the 5th week could be an "overtime/ties" thing I guess you could call it. It wouldn't be expected, but that's the "just in case" situations.

Each categories having their own ways of judging styles makes for it being more interesting. Also yeah as you said. Neko's idea where everyone gets "something."

Honestly, I know WAR had a bad experience last time here on the forum. That doesn't mean it needs to be avoided and it'll never come back. It just needs to be reworked and needs serious planning and care. New implementations that will be set out to take out negativity or help counter it. Making it a more friendly environment for everyone. There's ways to plan it out and work out new systems. It'll just need to time, care, and development to create and fix any issues to prevent further issues from reoccurring.

With that, I'd LOVE to see WAR make a return!

    The time is upon us...
