Catch em, if you can!
On June 8th, Abra, the Psi Pokémon, will take centre stage. To fully prepare you for this hour long weekly event, let’s go on a journey to discover everything we can about this Psychic-Type Pokémon.
Standing at 2’11” and weighing in at 43 lbs, Abra has the ability to teleport anywhere by hypnotizing itself, even when it’s sleeping. Abra is most commonly used in the main series game as a synchronizer. Using it’s Ability Synchronize, Abra can guarantee the Nature of wild Pokémon will match it’s own. This is especially helpful when hunting for competitively viable Pokémon that need specific Nature to be useful in battle. For example, if you need a Pokémon with a Modest Nature, you would send out a Modest Abra (with the Synchronize Ability) first, to guarantee the Pokémon you are catching, will have the Modest Nature. Previous to Pokémon Sword/Shield this was not 100% effective. But it was still the best way to achieve this.
Abra gets it’s name from the magic spell abracadabra. It’s evolution, Kadabra, also receives it’s name from this spell. For a neat little history on the Abra family, and other Pokémon inspired by real-life people be sure to check out this article here.
In Pokémon GO
Abra has a Flee Rate of 99%. This means that if one breaks out of a Pokéball, it will almost surely run away. This is an homage to the original games, where Abra would use Teleport on the first turn to escape. Abra’s strongest moveset is Zen Headbutt & Shadow Ball and it has a max CP of 1,342. Comparatively, the final evolutionary stage of Abra, Alakazam, has a max CP of 3,057, with it’s best moveset being Max Confusion & Psychic. The Shiny variant of Abra was added to the game on April 25th 2020, for the Abra Community Day.
Tips for Spotlight Hour
This Spotlight hour, which runs form 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time will also feature double the Candy for catches. This is a great way to ensure that not only will you get lots of Abra to choose from for evolving, but that you will also have lots of Candy to do so. This is because it takes 124 Candy to fully evolve Abra to Alakazam. Good luck and happy hunting.
See you around, Genesect!
