No, it has nothing to do with the exchange rate. It's GST on electronics, or something else equally as stupid. When our dollar was worth more than the US dollar (I think it was mid 2012), prices were exactly the same. It's just how much it costs here because of tax or something dumb (never looked it up; just been told things).
