Fantastic Fan Art: Mega Mawile

This week we are going to take a look at Mega Mawile. Is anyone using Mawile in their Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire playthrough? I certainly am! Let’s get right to some images of this awesome Pokémon.

Joltik92’s Mega Mawile

We’re starting off this FFA with a bang this week! The above image is an absolutely stunning work of art. The image has depth, texture, and details to match. The artist choose to make use of highlights to bring this Mega Mawile to life. Make note of the details on the hands, and the tongues. In these examples we can see why highlighting is so beneficial. When reviewing a drawing or creating one of your own use highlights to your advantage. Producing shadows and darkening an image brings a lot to it but highlighting is often underrated. This piece, by Joltik92, is a perfect deviantArt image to demonstrate the beauty of highlighting in digital painting. I have to admit my personal favourite aspect is the detailing of the mouth’s insides. We’ve not only got highlighting, we’ve got bumpy textures and a touch of saliva! What sort of ways do you use highlights? Let us know in the comments!

MBLOCK’s Mega Mawile

Here we have a very interesting take on Mega Mawile. The shape and form is very recognizable and doesn’t stray too far from the typical Pokémon art, but we have a very different style in terms of colours. The artist achieves the look of Mega Mawile with very few colours, mostly a yellow, light purple and slate black. What do you think of this effect? MBLOCK definitely achieved depth with this image despite the few colours he used and the style is very unique. The splashes of white give it some strong highlighting contrast that complements the harsh lines well. It’s always nice to see an artist create a style theme for an image and stick to it well. This image may have a lack of colour diversity but it is no doubt a fantastic piece of fan art and brings a lot of character to Mega Mawile. Check out MBLOCK‘s deviantArt and let us know what you think! You can even leave them some friendly feedback there as well.

Mega Mawile Gijinka

Last up this week we have a Mega Mawile Gijinka! I won’t say we left the best for last but Gijinka are definitely my favourite finds for FFA. We get to see the artist create a person who represents our favourite Pokémon in the best ways possible! What isn’t to adore? This Mega Mawile is off of 虫叽‘s pixiv page.  As with all Mega Mawile and Mawile related Gijinkas we want to look for how their dresses are represented and how their mouths are as well. In this example the artist went for a beautiful kimono robe closed with a bow. I adore the colour choices and think it represents our subject of this week very well! We often see the mouths represented by a headpiece or hair and this artist picked the latter. Her beautiful pigtails and hair ribbons represent Mawile’s rather large mouths exactly! One of my favourite details about this image are the feet, however. The shoes are both traditional and very Mega Mawile!
