The World Championships are underway and already they have announced some huge Pokemon TCG news! This is really important as the raising sun and moon are revealing a brand new mechanic call Pokemon GX!
GX Pokemon are powerful cards that boost higher HP and strong attacks plus a special GX Attack! Each GX Pokemon will have at most two attacks or an ability but they will have access to a GX Attack that can only be used once per game. Just a heads up, they can only use their GX Attack once per game, not per Pokemon.
The first two GX Pokemon that were revealed with the announcement of GX Pokemon were Solgaleo GX and Lunala GX. Their design and energy cost have not been finalize but they already look like impressive cards.
Solgaleo EX is a Steel type Pokemon that has an ability call Ultra Road that allows the player to switch their active Pokemon with one of their Benched Pokemon. The Metal Pokemon has the attack Sunsteel Strike which does a massive 230 damage but you will need to discard all your energy. Lastly, Solgaleo EX has an GX attack call Sol Burst GX. This attack allows you to search your deck for give energy card and arrange them in any way you like. This could really help accelerate a few Pokemon quickly with a few Double Colorless Energy.
Lunala GX is a Psychic type Pokemon that has the Psychic Transfer ability. This ability allows you to move your Psychic energy to different Pokemon in any way you like. This Pokemon’s attack is called Phantom Ray which only does 120 damage but it prevents your opponent from healing the defending Pokemon. Lastly there is Lunala GX’s GX Attack, Lunar Fall GX! This GX Attack allows you to knock out one of your opponent’s Basic Pokemon. This will surely disrupt your opponent as it could be used to knock out a valuable Pokemon on their side of the field.
Below is some more information about GX Pokemon.
- A player can use only one GX attack per game. (That’s one total, not one per Pokémon-GX!)
- Each Pokémon-GX has a maximum of two attacks in addition to its GX attack.
- Pokémon-GX have strong attacks and high HP, so they can overwhelm the opponent’s Pokémon without needing to rely on the GX attack.
- All of this power comes at a price. When your Pokémon-GX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes two Prize cards. Think carefully about how and when to use your Pokémon-GX in battle.
