The Masked Singer Unmasks A Pokemon Fan

Grandpa Monster from The Masked Singer
Spoiler Alert, read with caution!

The latest episode of The Masked Singer Season 5 saw Grandpa Monster get the boot. And the “Celebrity” inside has special connection to Pokémon.

The popular singing competition that started overseas in South Korea has also been a hit here in North America. For those who haven’t watched the show, the premise is simple. Celebrities in elaborate costumes, sing on stage for a panel of judges who try to guess their identity. The worse their performance is, the sooner that celeb is booted from the show and their identity revealed.

Last night’s episode revealed a person who is very familiar to the Pokémon community. And not necessarily for all the right reasons.

Take It Off, Take It Off

The mask…take off the mask. Grandpa Monster tugged at his giant fuzzy head revealing none other than Logan Paul. The Vine and YouTube personality was was handed the proverbial Eject Button, as his rendition of Bad Reputation by Joan Jett, was considered less than favorable by judges and audience members.

Personally, I didn’t enjoy seeing his face on my TV and would rather have him put the mask back on. As far as celebrity status goes, he’s bottom of the barrel in my opinion. If for some reason the name Logan Paul isn’t ringing a bell, don’t worry about it. Just know that he is the main reason for the shortage of Pokémon trading cards in retail stores.

5 months ago Logan Paul bought a $200,000 booster box and opened it live on YouTube with fellow Pokémon TCG YouTuber Leonhart. This sent millions of fans and non-fans of The Pokémon franchise into a buying frenzy in hopes of scoring some rare cards worth thousands of dollars. For full details on the TCG crisis click here.

But did you know that this is not the first time The Masked Singer has had a close connection with Pokémon? Back in South Korea, a REAL celebrity was unmasked and revealed to be none other than the voice of Detective Pikachu, Ryan Reynolds! Reynolds went on the show to promote his movie Deadpool 2 and blew the judges and audience away with his version of tomorrow from “Annie.” Check out his performance below.

See you around, Genesect!
