In what has already been a huge news week, The Pokemon Company has revealed even more exciting information, this time in regards to Pokken Tournament. Not only do we now have 4 more playable characters for the soon to be released game, but we now have a release date for North America and Europe! So strap in and prepare for a ton of awesome information!
First, we finally have a release date for those of us in North America and Europe that have been eagerly awaiting Pokken Tournament. According to Pokemon.com, the official NA and European release date is March 18! The game will, of course, be released for the Wii U system, so while you are pre-ordering your new 20th anniversary Pokemon 3DS systems, be sure to set aside a little cash to pick up your own copy of Pokken Tournament.
Next in Pokken news, we saw the first three new playable characters released on Wednesday. They are Braixen, Garchomp, and Mewtwo! According to Serebii, it appears from the CoroCoro reveal that Garchomp will be categorized as a Power fighter, using more physically based moves such as Dragon Rush. We also see in the reveal that it appears Garchomp will be able to Mega Evolve into Mega Garchomp, though that is not confirmed. We also can assume that Braixen will be a more distance based attacker, given that it appears to be using Fire Blast in the reveal. The Mewtwo that will be playable will not be the Shadow Mewtwo that we have seen in Pokken news, but will be a powerful character nevertheless. Speaking of Shadow Mewtwo, the Nintendo Direct update also revealed that a special Shadow Mewtwo card will be included in the first runs of the Pokken Tournament game.
Finally, we have the latest update to come down the pipe for Pokken Tournament. For a week or so we have been speculating on the new playable character that Pokemon had been hinting at. When Braixen, Garchomp, and Mewtwo were revealed, we soon discovered they were not the rumored new character. Finally, on Thursday, we were informed that, according to the Official Pokken Tournament website and on the English Pokken Tournament website, that this new character will be Chandelure! Unexpected for sure, but exciting news still. The gameplay trailer for Chandelure will be revealed on January 31.
