TCG Jump: Featured Card- Yveltal EX

Yveltal EX
We are looking at another card from the XY set that has cast a dark cloud in the skies. It spells destruction for all that are not ready and leaves no life in it’s wake. This Pokemon casts a dark shadow whenever it comes into play and puts trainers on high alert. If you are not careful then your troubles can add up pretty quickly. This week’s featured card was heavily anticipated in prereleases for many good reasons. So stay put as we put the spotlight on Yveltal EX.

Yveltal EX is a rare from the XY set that can quickly pack a powerful punch. You can use Y Cyclone for a Darkness and two other energy to dish out ninety damage. Once the damage is dealt, you can then move one energy from Yveltal EX to a benched Pokemon. That is a good attack and ninety damage is enough to two-hit KO any normal EX but the real power is in the first attack, Evil Ball. If you attach a Darkness and any other energy to Yveltal EX then you can deal twenty plus twenty more damage for each energy attacked to both Yveltal EX and your opponent’s defending Pokemon.

Yveltal EX’s Evil Ball may sound a little familiar to another popular EX Pokemon attack that goes by the name of Mewtwo EX‘s X Ball. Both attacks deal damage based on the number of Energy attach to both active Pokemon. The difference is that Yveltal EX does an extra twenty damage because of the base damage compare to the base damage being multiplied. If there are five energy on the field between the two active Pokemon then Mewtwo EX’s X Ball will do hundred damage. Compare this to Yveltal EX’s Evil Ball which will be hundred-twenty damage in the same situation.

There is a difference in these two attacks besides the base damage and that is the typing of the Pokemon using them. Mewtwo EX’s X Ball will have a higher chance to hit for weakness with amount of Pokemon weak to Psychic type Pokemon. Some common Psychic weak Pokemon includes Mew EX, Deoxys EX, and itself. Yveltal EX’s Evil Ball will rarely hit for weakness due to the only Pokemon weak to Darkness is a few selected Psychic Pokemon that would normally be classified as Ghost types within the video game. If anything, you would hit for weakness Dusknoir or Trevenant that was placed in the active.

Where would you see Yveltal EX played? The first thing that comes to mind is Darkrai EX decks. This card can be another heavy attacker that would make a great late game sweeper. After Darkrai EX leave your opponent’s side of the bench heavy damaged, Yveltal EX can come in heavily loaded with energy to take some prizes. This could be especially handy if you are playing against Yeti which requires Lugia EX to have plenty of energy to attack. You are looking to deal at least hundred-twenty damage with one in the active after firing a Plasma Gale.

Craftier trainers would try to sneak a Yveltal EX into any deck that uses an Energy Trans strategy such as Fairy Box. You load up your bench Pokemon using Xerneas‘s Geomancy. Sometime during all of that, you place a Rainbow or Prism Energy on the bench. Depending on the situation, you will use Aromatisse‘s Fairy Transfer to transfer some of the Fairy Energy on to Yveltal EX along with a Prism Energy. Once you do that, you can start handing out heavy damage Evil Balls. Just watch out for any Lightning Pokemon that may come out in mirror matches.

If you were lucky to pull out a Yveltal EX from your packs then congratulations. This is one card that could spell destruction when you use it. So watch out if you are playing against it or using it.
