Do you have what it takes to be a Pokemon TCG artist?

Well, now you will have your chance to draw art for the Pokemon TCG! The Second Pokémon Card Game Illustration Grand Prix contest has been announced! Fans in Japan will be able to submit artworks for the chance their work to be featured on a Pokemon card and perhaps even a job!

The theme for the art contest will be “Cool moments of Pokemon” involving scenery in the city or forest. They will only be allow to use the following Pokemon: Charizard, Pikachu, Tyranitar, Milotic, Lucario, Genesect, Wishiwashi, or Zacian.

Their work will be judged by various people involved with Pokemon including artists. Some of these people include: Tsunekazu Ishihara (The Pokemon Company President), Hirokazu Tanaka (President, Creatures Inc.), Yuji Kitano (Creatures Inc. Director Development Producer), Reiko Ujiie (Director, Creatures Inc. Pokemon CG Studio Art Director), Kenichi Koga (Creatures Inc. Art Director).

Below are the prizes for those who do well in the art contest.

Grand Prize: 300,000 yen with the winner artwork being made into a card
2D Illustration Excellence Award: 100,000 yen
3D Illustration Excellence Award: 100,000 yen
5 Judge Prizes: 50,000 yen

It was also noted that Creatures may recruit some of the artists to become official Pokemon TCG artists.

Submissions will be open to Japanese residents from December 9th, 2019 to March 31st, 2020. Winners will be revealed in June 2020. Most likely during the Japan Championships 2020. Contestants can submit their artwork here.
