Depending on the amount of Championship Points that a player receives will determine the type of invitation they will receive. Some players may receive Day Two Invitations and a travel award. Those who receive Day Two Invitations will not be required to take part in Day One of Worlds.

To be awarded a Day Two Invitation and travel awards will be determine below:

  • The Top 16 players from the US and Canada rating zone
  • The Top 22 players from the Europe rating zone
  • The Top 8 players from the Latin America rating zone
  • The Top 8 players from the Asia Pacific rating zone

The tournament structure for Worlds 2016 was also revealed today. The tournament structure will be just like the 2015 World Championships where the tournament will be divided into three parts. The first part will be a Day One Tournament on Friday where TCG competitors will compete in a best-out-of-three Swiss rounds. Those who do well and qualify will then be able to compete in Day Two. The Day Two Tournament will take place on Saturday. Players will start fresh and records from the first day will not carry over. Finally, a Top Cut made up for eight players for each age division will get to compete for the Championship title for Day Three on Sunday.

Lastly, there will be no Last Chance Qualifiers. The reason why there will be no LCQ is because Pokemon wants World competitors to take part in several different events in order to qualify for Worlds. There is no word at the time if there will be an “Open” event similar to the Boston Open that was held for Worlds 2015.

Best of luck to all TCG players wishing to part in on the World stage in 2016!
